Vtech Kiddiezoom Digital Camera Review
VTech, who as the designer of strong learning toys for children, have a range of kids digital cameras which are worthy of looking at.The Kidizoom Plus Camera is their latest edition and we decided to try it out on our grandchildren.
We like to believe that all of us are an artsy family group, and like photography very much. Our three grandchildren, ranging from two to five, have had a few of those low-cost childrens digital cameras, every one of which they have destroyed. They all genuinely enjoy taking photos, even if they frequently have no idea exactly what they are doing.
Until finally they got the VTech Kidizoom into their hands. Although none of them are expert digital photographers at this time (obviously), this specific camera offered each of them more ways for excitement and playability. When compared with just about any camera I’ve seen suffer through their little hands so far the Kiddiezoom seems to tick all the boxes.
Physical Elements
Not unlike a good number of children, when we give any kind of different plaything or electronic gadget to them, there does exist a particular expectation that it will get wrecked instantly. The majority do. I can declare, after several weeks of getting this specific camera, it’s still working. Possibly because it’s a camera they are all looking after it much better and taking care of it, or maybe for the reason that it’s robust. I prefer to believe that it is a little bit of both. It’s quite heavy, for a camera. I believe this has a good deal to do with the big rubberized grips along the side. They aren’t overly deep for petite hands and in addition they counter the load so accordingly the instant it is dropped the main impact is on its side first.
Among the coolest looking features from the child’s perspective is definitely the twin eyed view finder. Most small children are not intuitive enough to shutter one single eye while taking a photograph, so why make them? The actual visual angle from the view finder finds the middle even if the little one decides to shut just one eye. There is a center flash, and given that it’s only a digital zoom – there is no need to be concerned with regards to breaking or destroying an optical expanding lens.
The rear of the camera boasts a small viewing monitor. The frame rate is simply no where close to many other digital cameras, but just as before, this is not anything a young child will bother about. When my wife and I used it, this had been one of the initial points we noticed. Typically, the camera ought to be held very still whilst taking a photo, if the picture is to be in focus. This might be a issue regarding small children and having looked at the pictures which my youngest little princess took, I would say that she had around a 25% success rate of unfocused to in focus shots.
Honestly, that’s not bad for just about a four year old. A more mature youngster should have no issue keeping the camera secure for that second it can take to take a photograph. Also on the rear is the dial for varying the actual features and also the basic zoom, electrical power, d-pad and “OK” press button. See the picture.
Operation & Photo Quality
Via the included cables you are able to plug the camera directly into the television and of course, via USB, to the computer in order to download photos. Obviously, the actual quality when input into an high definition TV isn’t all that great. Again, your kid may just be satisfied that their pics on screen. The camera only has a 2x digital zoom. Consedering the developments in normal digital cameras right now, it would be well worth a couple extra dollars to secure a decent zoom on the camera. Therefore that tends to make it a simple point and shoot camera, as far as capturing go. Hey its a childrens digital camera waht do you want?
There is a tools menu, if you would like to choose a reduced resolution (can’t imagine you would) or change to the expandable SD memory slot which I hugely recommend. Children take plenty of pics. Especially whenever they don’t have film to change. We learned how to shoot on a 1981 (I believe) Canon SLR way before auotofocus, therefore we needed to be selective whenever we took a photo. With digital cameras, we are able to simply take thousands of pics and hunt for the good ones. This is especially true with youngsters.
As I briefly talked about before, the photo level of quality is just what you may likely anticipate from something which is just two megapixels. I have to be fair that though, it’s just a sixty dollar digital camera. The lowest priced adult digital cameras tend to be hovering somewhere close to $100 – $125 and I wouldn’t place these in the hands of a youngster. Based on that, the resolution is grainy and not well-defined by any means. However regardless of whether I needed to, I really don’t think I could possibly explain image resolution and pixelization to a four year old pre schooler.
Functions
From the point of view of an adult the menu selections are not what you would be expecting from the camera. As a youngster, they will work perfectly. Bring up hilarious faces, ornamental frames, take photographs by way of a kaleidoscope and include “stamps”, hats, and many others to any picture. Along with these types of fun trivial menu alternatives, the camera delivers a number of little video games to experiment with as well. Really simple games, however remember this is not a DS.
Aside from the camera functionality, you can add voice to a picture and also take simple videos. I only say short just because of the amount of storage and also electric batteries filming a video clip with this camera can easily consume. When observing photographs, the pictures cross over like a power point presentation, which is entertaining and doesn’t require the kid to personally run through all of them.
One of my granddaughters’ favourite things to do was merely take a seat and watch the slide show associated with the photos she took. It’s a great, strong, kids digital camera for your little ones to start toying together with and engaging in photography. The actual frame options are enjoyable and you can drop it, bash it and throw it and it won’t bust. It has a very low price tag point as well for a digital camera.
What about the two megapixels? I know it’s for kids, but a lot of cell phones provide better picture quality. Battery life was a bit heavy too but at least the Kiddiezoom has an auto switch off which means the camera cannot be left live when not in use. As digital kids cameras go we think that this one is worth taking a punt at.
